January Welcome – Live Well, Travel Well, and Breathe Hatteras Island
Call upon your yester-you and step into your future.
Another New Year has landed! With a big steaming bowl of black-eyed peas and collard greens, I have hopes for a bright future and a wish for peace! On the out is manifesting abundance and all the dedications to me-time. As we know, there are many paths to enlightenment. Last year I said goodbye to list-boring goals of personal achievement and went on a resolution revolution to find my ‘why.’ Which was enlightening.
Continuing on this journey of self-discovery, I want to reacquaint myself with the things that make me tick. At the top of my list is to spend less time adulting and spend more time with my inner child. I’d forgotten how funny, silly, and carefree she could be. She thinks big and ridiculous, likes to draw, and wants to see the whole world. I plan to listen to what the yester-me has to say, go on more playdates, and tap into her creative energy.
So how exactly do you ‘reconnect’ with your inner child? Everyone says it’s sooooo important for personal growth and mindset—just like jumping rope for fitness vs. jumping rope for joy. It allows you to gain new perspectives, resolve past issues, reinvigorate daily life, spark curiosity, and have fun along the way!
At the beginning of January, write a letter to yourself with what you are ready to leave behind and want to welcome in this year—also include your hopes, fears, and dreams. Let go of your present voice, and address these instead as your inner child would. Email it to yourself or put it in an envelope and seal it shut. Don’t read the letter again until next year. There you go. You’ve created a space where your inner child can sit crisscross applesauce, ready for you!
Throughout the year, when you have an important decision to make or find yourself at a crossroads, call upon your yester-you to see how ‘you’ would tackle it. You may find yourself going in a totally different direction or embarking on an adventure together with your past and present self as you step into your future.
Wishing you a happy and healthy 2025!
