August Welcome – Live Well and Breathe Hatteras Island.
Enjoy the now.
August is the Sunday of summer. It’s that golden in-between—where the long days still stretch out ahead, but you can feel the shift coming. There’s a whisper of change in the air and we are reminded to slow down and savor what’s here now.
Why slow down? In a culture that equates speed with success, slowing down is almost an act of rebellion. Wellness thrives in moments of stillness. Slowing down isn’t about doing nothing—it’s about doing things with presence. When we give ourselves space to breathe, notice, and rest, we’re better prepared for the natural transitions life brings—like the shift from summer to fall.
August is your invitation to fill your cup, not your calendar. Take a moment to ask yourself:
- What is one thing I want to savor before summer ends?
- How can I create space to be more present?
- What energy do I want to carry into September?
If you feel you missed your vacation window… there’s still time! Not everyone can step away for a week—or even a few days—but we can weave rest and renewal into the spaces we do have. Plan a micro-adventure or a staycation day to shift your perspective. For me, a quick weekend away to Charlotte NC was just the ticket—a change of scenery that broke me out of my daily routine. Back here on Hatteras Island, a friend’s birthday beach fire and chasing ghost crabs with the kids reminded me of the magic we have right here in our own backyard.
And as for that slow ritual of watching a sunset from start to finish—I haven’t claimed it yet, and that’s okay. It will happen, in its own time. No rush.
