Meeting with my monkey mind.
This month, I embark on round two of eye surgery. And this time, I’m digging deep—because I know what lies ahead. Limited reading and screen time. Uncomfortable sleep. The quiet frustration of here we go again.
But there’s also something else.
Time away from my usual work and home life responsibilities. A pause from the day-to-day rhythm that normally keeps everything moving. And within that space, I’m curious to meet that “monkey mind” that never stops chattering. I’m ready to listen—to see where it wanders, what it uncovers, and what might surface when there’s nothing to distract it.
This time, I’m choosing to use that space differently. The ideas that have been quietly circling in my mind now have room to land. With my love for travel, I’m working on a series of postcards for summer, and creating a Hatteras Escape Guide—something to help both group and solo travelers experience the slower beauty of the shoulder seasons here on the island.
And now it feels like creative healing—a chance to tap into different skills and expand my thinking. I’ll report back when I get to the other side.
